Reading: Jacob and Esau (Genesis 25:19~34)
When Isaac was 40 years old, he married Rebekah.
Isaac prayed to the Lord for a baby. Rebekah could not have a baby. The Lord answered Isaac’s prayer.
When the two babies moved inside of her, Rebekah asked the Lord what was happening. The Lord said that the two boys would be in charge of two nations. The older son would have to listen to the younger son.
Rebekah gave birth to twins. The oldest son was red and very hairy. They named him Esau. His brother came out holding onto Esau’s heel. They named him Jacob.
Isaac loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
Jacob was cooking some stew one day. Esau asked Jacob for some stew because he was starving. Jacob told Esau to sell him his birthright. Esau agreed. Jacob had tricked his brother Esau. Now Jacob had the right to receive his brother’s inheritance from their father Isaac.
Jacob gave stew to his brother Esau in trade for his birthright.
