Reading: The Gibeonite Trick (Joshua 9:3~27)
The Gibeonites answered Joshua by saying that because they knew that the LORD God had given all of their land to the Israelites, they were afraid for their lives and that was why they lied. They told Joshua to do with them what he wished and what he saw as good. So Joshua saved their lives, but they were always servants to chop wood and draw water for the children of Israel, and for the altar of the LORD for many, many years.

Reading: The Gibeonite Trick (Joshua 9:3~27)
People in the land began to fear Israel because the Lord was helping them win all of their battles. The people in the town of Gibeon knew the army was close and were afraid that Israel would attack them, so they played a trick. They made themselves appear to have travelled a long way. They asked Joshua to make a treaty with them and promise to protect them. Joshua did not ask the Lord’s advice but simply agreed to the treaty.
After the battle of Jericho and the battle of Ai, all the nations around where the children of Israel were camping had heard about what had been happening and how God had helped His people. Their kings began to take notice. All of the kings on the west side of the Jordan River organized and all of their people fought against Joshua and the children of Israel. Some of the people were Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
