Reading: Crossing the Jordan (Joshua 3:1~4:23)
A new generation of Israelites stood at the edge of the Jordan River. Their parents had disbelieved God and, as a result, God had not allowed them to enter the Promised Land. For 40 years they had wandered in the desert. And during that time, God had proven that He is loving and trustworthy. So when God’s order came to move out into a rushing river to see Him do the amazing things He’d promised, they had to either seize this moment in faith or remain safely stuck on the far side of the river—in the land of reasonable unbelief.
Sure enough, the people packed up all of their tents and possessions and the priests carried the ark of the covenant passed in front of the people. As soon as the priests' feet touched the Jordan River, the river stopped flowing and the water started piling up. No water flowed toward the Dead Sea and the priests stood on dry land in the middle of the Jordan River while the many, many Israelites crossed over the Jordan River on dry land!!
